Worship
St Thomas' holds a variety of services throughout the year. The main Sunday morning 10:30 service alternates between the Book of Alternate Services (BAS) and the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). As part of this schedule, Family Communion from the BAS are typically held on the first Sunday of the month, and Choral Communion is from the BCP on the third Sunday. The 8:30 service is usually a communion service, again alternating between BAS and BCP, the Thursday morning 10:00 service is usually from the BCP.
Throughout the year, various groups within the Church participate in the main Sunday service either by inductions (Mother's Union, Brotherhood of St. Andrew) or by presenting reading, skits and songs. The Sunday School Christmas pageant has traditionally been held at the main service, and the Choir holds a special service of Lessons and Carols during the third week of Advent. During Lent, extra mid-week services are held, leading to daily 7:30 evening services during Holy Week. A 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM observance of the Passion of our Lord, and the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. A community Remembrance Day service in November is attended by representatives of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Thunder Bay Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Navy League and Cadets, Scouts and Girl Guides, members of City Council, members of the Provincial legislature and of Parliament, as able.
Mutual ministry plays and important role in worship. St. Thomas' has many layreaders and eucharistic assistants who work together with the Rector during services. During communion services, members of the Prayer Team are available at designated prayer stations to lay on hands, anoint with oil and pray for the physical, emotional or spiritual healing of those desiring the ministry of prayer. The Prayer Team is also available after Morning Prayer services or for special needs when called.
